PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The Carthage women's basketball team defeated Lakeland 71-34 to open the 2023-2024 regular season.

The Firebirds kicked off the first quarter with a strong offensive performance, securing a 10 point lead, 12-2, in the first five minutes of play.
With a good free throw from Emma Thistle, the Firebirds led 16-2 going into the second quarter.
Carthage continued to build off of the offensive momentum, and a three-point shot from Malia Green to put them ahead 29-6 with five minutes left in the quarter.
After two made free throws from Alyssa Orozco and a layup from Green, the Firebird led 38-12 at halftime.
Carthage started off the third quarter with a quick layup by Marianna Morrissey in the first minute of play to extend the lead to 40-12.
The Firebirds held onto their 25-plus-point margin, with a layup by Grace Wamser to end the third quarter leading 61-29.
A three-pointer by Lauren Knight in the game's final two minutes sealed the win for the Firebirds.
Carthage defeated Lakeland 71-34.

Lauren Knight led the Firebirds with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Marianna Morrissey added 12 points and five rebounds to the win.
Grace Cord, Malia Green contributed six rebounds while Emma Thistle, Addison Ebeling, and Alyssa Orozco each added five rebounds to the defensive effort.
