  • Records: Carroll (Wis.) 4-9 (1-3 CCIW) - Carthage 10-2 (3-1 CCIW)

How it Happened
  • Carroll (Wis.) built a five-point advantage to start with a fast-break three-pointer until five-straight points from Julian Campbell tied it at 20.
  • With 2:06 left in the half, a long-range three from Tanner Lamb put the Firebirds ahead 32-30.
  • After a last-second layup from Anthony Bernero put the visitors ahead by two, the Pioneers responded with a buzzer-beating jumper sending both teams into the intermission break even at 34.

  • Bernero tied it at 56 with a layup; however, an 10-2 run propelled the home team forward with 2:49 remaining in regulation.

  • Carthage got within two off a three-point basket from Lamb with 22 seconds remaining.

Coachs Remarks

"Tough to win games on the road in the CCIW. Give Carroll all the credit in the world. They out-toughed us, outplayed us, out-executed us, and deserved to win the basketball game. We've prided ourselves all year on sharing the basketball and scoring at a high percentage. You won't win many games shooting 27% from three and 42% from the foul line. It doesn't get any easier as we have preseason favorites Illinois Wesleyan coming in on Saturday. We need to regroup and have two good days of practice!"

Up Next
  • Up next, the Firebirds return home for a 4:15 p.m. tip-off against Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, January 4.
