KENOSHA, Wis. — In the season home opener, the No. 1 Carthage College men's volleyball team picked up a straight-set sweep over Lakeland on Thursday.

Carthage controlled a 6-2 margin with back-to-back aces from Joe Kolwicz in the first set.
Lakeland battled back, getting within one with an ace of their own.
With the set locked at 10, the Firebirds went back in front 15-12 off two consecutive Muskie attack errors.
Out of Lakeland timeout, two aces from Drew Jansen and a block from Ryan Cholewinski moved the score to 18-12.
An ace from Keegan Brumitt made it set point as a block from David Markes won it 25-15.
In the second, the Muskies tied it at eight early on.
Later, back-to-back kills from Cholewinski put the home team in control 17-14.
Although Lakeland got within four, a Muskies attack error won the set for Carthage 25-20.
The visitors broke out to a 7-1 advantage in the third until Carthage tied it at 11 off an attack error.
Another ace from Kolwicz moved Carthage ahead 20-14.
The Firebirds won the match with a service error 25-19.

Kyle Radecki and Ryan Cholewinski each had six kills for the Firebirds, followed by Drew Jansen with five.
Keegan Brumitt and Joe Kolwicz had a match-best four aces, while Cholewinski added six blocks.
Gene McNulty registered 20 assists, along with Radecki adding five digs.
