Firebirds Sweep Lakeland in Home Opener

KENOSHA, Wis.  — In the season home opener, the No. 1 Carthage College men's volleyball team picked up a straight-set sweep over Lakeland on Thursday. 


The Basics
  • Final score: Carthage 3 - Lakeland 0
  • Location: Kenosha, Wisconsin - Tarble Arena
  • Records: Carthage 1-1, Lakeland 0-1

How it Happened 
 
  • Carthage controlled a 6-2 margin with back-to-back aces from Joe Kolwicz in the first set.  
  • Lakeland battled back, getting within one with an ace of their own. 
  • With the set locked at 10, the Firebirds went back in front 15-12 off two consecutive Muskie attack errors. 
  • Out of Lakeland timeout, two aces from Drew Jansen and a block from Ryan Cholewinski moved the score to 18-12. 
  • An ace from Keegan Brumitt made it set point as a block from David Markes won it 25-15. 
  • In the second, the Muskies tied it at eight early on. 
  • Later, back-to-back kills from Cholewinski put the home team in control 17-14. 
  • Although Lakeland got within four, a Muskies attack error won the set for Carthage 25-20. 
  • The visitors broke out to a 7-1 advantage in the third until Carthage tied it at 11 off an attack error. 
  • Another ace from Kolwicz moved Carthage ahead 20-14. 
  • The Firebirds won the match with a service error 25-19.
