Carthage Bowling Hits the Lanes in Addison

ADDISON, Ill. - In a stacked field with well over 50 teams, Carthage women's bowling competed well and placed in the top half of all competitors. Two Firebirds - Cassie Hyland and Caitlin Powers - were among the top-60 individuals on day one in regards to total pinfall. Coach Zwiefelhofer's team hadn't competed since early December due to the winter break, when the Firebirds participated in the Warhawk open.


The Basics
 
  • Result: 25th place out of 62 teams. 
  • Location: Addison, Ill. 

How it Happened

  
Day One:
  • Cassie Hyland (25th) and Caitlin Powers (56th) paced the Firebirds on day one, leading them to a 29th-place slot after day one of competition. Hyland knocked down 990 pins in five games, while Powers knocked down 955.
  • Ashley Turner also bowled well on day one, hitting 915 pins, led by a team-best 243 pins in her second game of the day. 
Day Two: 
  • The Firebirds moved up four spots in the final standings, going from 29th to 25th on the last day of competition. Day two consisted of 20 baker matches to provide a full day of bowling, and Carthage generated a pinfall of 3,607 in those matches. The team's highest pinfall in any of those 20 matches came in match number seven, when the Firebirds knocked over 243 pins.

High Flyers
 
  • Carthage was paced by Cassie Hyland - a two-time conference player of the week - who knocked down 990 pins on day one to place 25th among all individuals at the competition. 
  • Caitlin Powers was strong once again and placed 56th, hitting over 955 pins. 
  • As previously mentioned, Ashley Turner tallied the team's highest single-game pinfall on day one, knocking down 243 pins in the second game of the day en route to a 915-pin performance. 

Up Next
 
  • Carthage bowling will compete again in a little less than one month, heading to Lockport, Illinois for the Lewis Flyer Classic from Friday, February 10 through Sunday, February 12.
