Firebirds Draw in Non-Conference Road Battle With Alma

ALMA, Mich. - The Carthage Firebirds women's soccer team and the Alma Scots played to a draw in their early season non-conference matchup at Scotland Yard in Alma, Michigan.


The Basics
 
  • Final Score: Carthage 2, Alma 2. 
  • Location: Scotland Yard - Alma, Michigan. 
  • Records: Carthage 0-1-1 overall; Alma 1-0-1 overall. 

How it Happened
 
  • Carthage struck first in the third minute off of a header by sophomore midfielder Amelia Price. First-year player Jess Beymer was credited with the assist after heading the ball in Price's direction off of a corner kick by sophomore defender Lisa Traxel. 
  • The Firebirds tacked on an additional goal just over a minute later courtesy of a right-footed strike by Beymer that snuck under the goalkeeper's reach. Carthage would take the 2-0 lead into the half. 
  • Alma's Paige Moore cut the deficit in half in the 52nd minute with a strong strike from the top of the goalie box. 
  • The Scots' Lily Stephens evened the score at 2-2 in the 69th minute with a penalty kick goal that went up and over the outstretched arms of first-year Carthage goalkeeper Ainsley Stallworth. 
  • Each team's defense tightened up the rest of the way and the two competitors played to a 2-2 draw. 


High Flyers
 
  • First-year Firebird Jess Beymer tallied both her first career assist and first career goal in the contest. 
  • Junior forward/midfielder Katie Talens recorded her first assist in a Carthage uniform, setting Beymer up for a goal in the fourth minute. 
  • Sophomore midfielder Amelia Price scored her third career goal after heading a pass from Jess Beymer into the left side of the net in the third minute.
