Carthage Falls to UW-Whitewater in Close Contest at Art Keller Field

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage College women's soccer team lost 2-1 to the visiting UW-Whitewater Warhawks on Wednesday evening at Art Keller Field. The loss drops Carthage to 0-3-4 on the season, with CCIW competition beginning on Saturday against Illinois Wesleyan.

How it Happened
 
  • UW-Whitewater took a lead in the first half via a 27th-minute goal by Nina Malak. 
  • Although the Warhawks took nine shots and eight corner kicks in the first half of play, the goal by Malak was the lone score. 
  • Carthage clawed back in the second half, as Maggie Thom scored an unassisted goal in the 81st minute.
  • Whitewater's defense cracked down following the Thom goal, leading to the 2-1 final score. 

High Flyers
 
  • Senior midfielder Yuvia Ontiveros registered a shot on goal in her 69 minutes of game action. 
  • Sophomore defender Maggie Thom took her first two career shots in the game, and converted one of those two shots into an 81st-minute goal. 
  • First-year goalkeeper Ainsley Stallworth gathered six saves in the game, allowing only two goals on 16 Warhawk shots (eight on goal).
