Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Firebirds and Pointers Play To 1-1 Tie at Art Keller Field

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage Firebirds women's soccer team drew for the fourth consecutive game, tying 1-1 with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers on Wednesday evening at Art Keller Field. 


The Basics
 
  • Final Score: Carthage 1, UW-Stevens Point 1.
  • Location: Art Keller Field - Kenosha, Wisconsin. 
  • Records: Carthage 0-1-4, UWSP 1-3-2

How it Happened
 
  • The Pointers' Kati Frierdich got her team on the board in the 24th minute via an assist from Shea-Lynn Gerred. 
  • Stevens Point outshot the Firebirds 8-4 in the first half and brought the 1-0 advantage into the half. 
  • Carthage turned the tables on the Pointers in the second half, outshooting their opponent 10-4.
  • Only one of those ten shots hit the back of the net in the latter half, however- a Katie Talens right-footed strike in the 67th minute off of a leading pass from Jess Beymer.
  • Each team's defense played well in the remaining 23 minutes of game action, leading to the Firebirds fourth tie in a row. 

High Flyers
 
  • Junior forward/midfielder Katie Talens recorded five shots, three shots on goal, and her third goal of the season in the contest. 
  • First-year forward Jess Beymer assisted Talens on her 67th minute goal. The assist was Beymer's second of the season and brought her to six points on the year. Beymer also took three shots against the Pointers. 
  • Sophomore defender Lisa Traxel tallied a shot on goal in the game.

  • The Firebirds will depart Kenosha for Decorah, Iowa to take on Luther College in another non-conference matchup on Saturday, September 17 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
