Women's Soccer Draws With Greenville in Home Opener

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage College women's soccer team and the visiting Greenville University Panthers played to a hard-fought 3-3 draw on Saturday afternoon at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Firebirds have now drawn in three consecutive contests, having tied with both Alma and Beloit over the past week and a half.

  • Final Score: Carthage 3, Greenville 3.

  • Records: Carthage 0-1-3, Greenville 1-2-1.

How it Happened
 
  • Junior midfielder Katie Talens got the Firebirds off to a hot start, scoring an unassisted right-footed goal in the second minute. Katie has now registered five points and two goals this season, which are both career highs. 
  • Senior midfielder Kenzie Zocher answered with a goal of her own in the fourth minute. The goal was Zocher's first of the season and third of her Carthage career. 
  • Jen De Leon De Leon of Greenville scored a pair of goals in the second half of play (59th minute and 75th minute, respectively), sandwiched around a goal by Carthage's Jess Beymer.
  • First-year forward Jess Beymer scored the second goal of her young and promising career, heading a corner kick by sophomore defender Lisa Traxel past the Greenville goalkeeper and into the net. 
  • Carthage held a 3-2 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes of play, but a backbreaking goal by Greenville's Idaly Valenzuela in the 88th minute evened the score. Neither team scored in the final two minutes, leading to the 3-3 draw. 

High Flyers
 
  • Senior midfielder Kenzie Zocher recorded four shots, two shots on goal, and one goal in 63 minutes of play. 
  • Junior midfielder Katie Talens scored her second goal of the season. 
  • Jess Beymer, a first-year forward, scored the second goal of her career and registered an additional shot on goal in the contest.

  • The Firebirds will play host to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Wednesday, September 14 beginning at 7 p.m before heading off to Decorah, Iowa to take on Luther College on Saturday, September 17 starting at 5:30 p.m.
