Firebirds Fall in Season Opener to Illinois Institute of Technology

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Carthage College women's soccer team fell to Illinois Institute of Technology 2-1 Thursday night at Stuart Field in Chicago, Ill. 

The Basics

How it Happened
 
  • IIT got out to an early 1-0 lead, courtesy of a Nicole Fajardo goal just 25 seconds into the contest.
  • Carthage evened the score at one apiece in the 31st minute off of an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Katie Talens.
  • The Scarlet Hawks took a 2-1 lead into halftime after Jayla Anaya scored with 32 seconds remaining in the first half via an assist from Rachel Brettin.

High Flyers
 
  • Katie Talens scored the first goal of her collegiate career, hitting a right-footed strike from 15 yards out in the first half.
  • In her first collegiate regular season game, first-year goalkeeper Ainsley Stallworth recorded seven saves.
