Carthage Athletics 2022 Hall of Fame Class Announced

KENOSHA, Wis. - Carthage College will enshrine 10 new members into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame on September 23. The new members will be honored during the football game the following day.

Slated for induction are Karen Chin (women's volleyball), Nick Colletti (baseball), Kevin Sullivan (baseball), Jeff Lotz Jr. (men's tennis), McKenzie Parks (women's golf), Jackie Dernek (women's soccer), Evan Jones (football) Randy Converse (football), the 2003 4x100 meter women's relay team and Greg Raimondi (men's track and field). 

Karen Chin (2012-15) earned American Volleyball Coaches Association first-team All-America honors in 2015 and second-team All-America honors in 2014. She was named All-CCIW all four years, first-team from 2013-2015, and second-team in 2012. Chin was named Co-CCIW Player of the Year in 2014 while winning Player of the Year outright in 2015. Chin set a match record of 61 assists in four sets in 2015 and is currently Carthage's career leader in assists (5,233) and assists per set (9.71). In 2014, Chin was named CCIW/Jack Swartz All-Academic. 

Nick Colletti (1974-77) was a three-time all-CCIW first-team selection for the baseball team and second-team award winner through 1974-77. Colletti is 12th in the Carthage record books in batting average (.368), seventh in triples (eight), and seventh in most triples in a single season (five). 

Kevin Sullivan (1997-2000) earned American Baseball Coaches Association third-team All-American honors and CCIW Co-Player of the Year selection in 2000. Sullivan was a first-team All-CCIW first-team selection in 2000 and sits fourth in the record books in batting average (.398), third in base hits (250), third in runs batted in (185), and tied for second in doubles (57). Sullivan also holds numerous single-season records in the record books, including third-most batting average in a single season (.472), second-most hits in a single season (84), most doubles (24) and fifth most in on-base percentage (.522). Sullivan also holds the second-best record for the longest hitting streak to start a season, with 16 games at the beginning of the 1998 season. 

Men's tennis standout Jeff Lotz Jr. (2010-13) goes into the hall with 90 career wins in singles competition and 57 combined with Daneric Hazelman, which is the most career wins by a doubles pair in school history with 57, 10 more than any other duo in program history. Lotz Jr. holds the school record for most doubles wins in a season as He and Hazelman paired together for 34 victories in 2011-12 and is tied for sixth with 23 in 2010-11. Named CCIW Player of the Year during the 2011-12 season and a three-time CCIW first-team selection, Lotz Jr. was named to the ITA All-American list in doubles in 2011-12. 

McKenzie Parks (2014-16), the leader for lowest career average (78.84), holds several individual two-day scores in the Carthage women's golf record book, along with the lowest individual score at the NCAA Championship in 2015 (318) and the second lowest two-day score the Bristol Oaks Country Club (144). Parks finished 10th individually at the 2015 NCAA Championship after taking 14th at nationals the previous year while holding every individual scoring record at the time of graduation. The only women's golf coaches association All-America selection in program history, Parks was also a two-time WGCA All-Central Region award winner and three-time All-CCIW. 

The career leader for most career goals scored in Carthage women's soccer program history (65), Jackie Dernek (2001-04) holds single-season records in most total points in three separate seasons while sitting in third most for most career shots (250). Dernek, a two-time All-CCIW second-team selection, and CCIW Jack Swartz All-Academic award winner in 2003, holds the record for most game-winning goals (21) and is second on the total career points list (143). 

Evan Jones (2007-10) completed his career as the program's all-time leader in passing yards (9,406), total yards (9,424), and touchdown passes (82). He was named first-team All-CCIW, CCIW "Art Keller Offensive Player of the Year," and Wisconsin Private College "Football Player of the Year" in 2010 while leading the league in both passing yardage (288.0 yards per game) and total offense (277.3 yards per game). In 2009, Jones earned second-team All-Conference honors and set Carthage, CCIW, and Art Keller Field game records against North Central (Ill.). Jones collected records for total offensive yards (567), passing yards (562), passing attempts (84), and passing completions (47) while tying a school record with six touchdown passes.

Defensive end Randy Converse (1970-74) sits tied for the record for most fumble recoveries in a single season (7) in the Carthage football record books. A two-time all-CCIW first-team selection, Converse was named the team's defensive MVP in 1973. That season, Converse totaled 57 tackles and was named to the NAIA District 14 football team. Converse was also a member of the track and field team winning the CCIW title in men's shot put at the 1973 conference championship. 

During the 2003 Carthage women's track and field outdoor season, the relay team consisting of Caretha Carroll, Shea'na Grigsby, Muffy Israel, and Latrice Powell went on to win 43 combined All-American honors. The team won the 4x100-meter relay at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship meet with a time of 46.55 seconds. The mark ranks Carthage as the 19th-fastest school in NCAA Division III history in the event and, at the time, was the seventh-fastest 4x100-meter relay of all time. Both Grigsby and Israel are current Carthage Athletics Hall of Fame Members individually.

Greg Raimondi (2009-12) was named CCIW Most Valuable Field Athlete twice during his four-year career with the Carthage men's track and field program. A 2012 All-American after placing third in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet, Raimondi was a three-time Field Athlete of the Meet award winner. Raimondi claimed the triple crown after winning conference titles in the hammer, discus, and shot put. A seven-time All-CCIW honoree, Raimondi was honored by the USTFCCCA as an All-Academic individual in both 2011 and 2012. Raimondi was the 2012 CCIW/Jack Swartz award winner as he won the weight throw and placed second in the shot put at the 2012 indoor conference title meet. 

There are currently 228 members in the Carthage Athletics Hall of Fame, dating back to the inaugural ceremony in 1984. Voting is conducted by the hall's enshrinees and members of the Carthage Athletics Hall of Fame committee.

The Hall of Fame weekend will begin on Friday, September 23, with the Athletics Hall of Fame Golf Outing beginning at 11 a.m. at The Club at Strawberry Creek and the induction ceremony starting at 6 p.m. To register for the golf outing click here to register.
