6/11/2025 11:30:00 AM

KENOSHA — Carthage athletics is proud to announce its 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees, honoring four distinguished individuals whose historic accomplishments helped shape the legacy of Carthage athletics. This year's class includes Matt Meneghetti (men's golf), Herman Abban (men's tennis), Griffin Shields (men's volleyball), and longtime head baseball coach Augie Schmidt IV.

Matt Meneghetti

A four-year standout, Meneghetti remains one of the most dominant golfers in program history. He set the Carthage single-season scoring average record with a 72.81 mark as a senior and finished his career with the program's lowest-ever average at 74.32. A three-time team MVP and two-time All-CCIW honoree, Meneghetti won six tournaments during his senior campaign, including the 2018 CCIW Individual Championship, which he secured with a birdie in a playoff. He was a four-time CCIW Spring Academic All-Conference selection and was twice named the Carthage Frank Falduto Male Athlete of the Year.

Herman Abban

A transformational figure in Carthage men's tennis, Abban was a two-time CCIW Player of the Year and the 2017 CCIW Newcomer of the Year. He earned ITA All-America honors in 2017, becoming just the second Carthage player to qualify for both the NCAA singles and doubles tournaments in the same season. He holds program records for most singles wins in a season (30) and combined wins in a season (64). Abban and partner Pawel Jaworski reached the NCAA semifinals in doubles, a program first. He finished his Carthage career with an overall singles record of 57-7.

Griffin Shields

A three-time All-American, Shields is one of the most prolific attackers in Carthage men's volleyball history. He ranks fourth all-time in career kills (943) and holds the top mark in kills per set (3.80). Shields twice earned AVCA First Team All-America honors and was named MCVL Offensive Player of the Year in 2016. His senior season saw him average 3.81 kills per set, while ranking in the top 10 nationally. He helped guide Carthage to multiple NCAA postseason appearances and remains among the all-time leaders in points, aces, and attack percentage.

Augie Schmidt IV

One of the most respected names in Division III baseball, Schmidt served as head coach of the Carthage baseball program for 38 seasons, compiling a career record of 1,032-565-5. At the time of his retirement in 2025, he ranked fourth among active Division III coaches in total victories. Under his leadership, Carthage captured nine CCIW titles and advanced to 16 NCAA regionals, winning six and earning back-to-back third-place national finishes in 1993 and 1994. Schmidt was a 10-time CCIW Coach of the Year and coached 26 ABCA All-Americans. He led 20 teams to 30-win seasons and mentored dozens of student-athletes who became all-region or all-conference selections.

The 2025 Hall of Fame class will be formally inducted during Homecoming Weekend this fall.
