HOUSTON, Tx. — The Carthage women's golf team began their first round of the NCAA DIII Women's Golf Championship at The Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Tx. this Tuesday afternoon. The Firebirds combined for an opening round of 326 (+38) to finish 18th of 29.
"I was really happy with how we played today!" said head coach
Brandy Johnston. "We've had a tendency to struggle early in the round, but we started great and I felt we handled the moment - being in the NCAA Championships for the 1st time ever for all 5 players - about as well as we could have. The 16th hole caused a lot of issues for us, but if we can clean that up tomorrow, and correct a few other small errors, I think we'll be able to move up a few spots on the leader board tomorrow."
Senior Kate Munro carded 78 (+6) this afternoon to lead the way for the Firebirds' scorecard. Alina Brindza shot 80 (+8), and Adrienne Rohwedder carded 83 (+11) for her first 18. Lorelei Oomens shot 85 (+13), and Madi McCoy 87 (+15) to round out Carthage's scorecard.
Round two of the NCAA DIII Championships begins tomorrow at 8:30 AM for the Firebirds.
