Offense Erupts at Carroll to Close Regular Season With a Victory

WAUKESHA, Wis. — The Carthage men's lacrosse team made some marks on the program record book to end their regular season schedule with a 26-5 win at Carroll on Saturday at Schneider Stadium.

The first score of the day came from the goal-leader of the match George Burchfield, with Alec Gern adding another less than a minute later. A flurry of goals from Andrew Frey, Burchfield, Michael Stell, and Ben Krok made it a 6-0 game, before the Firebirds (12-4, 5-1 CCIW) scored four more to make it a 10-0 match by the end of the first quarter. The Pioneers (1-10, 0-6 CCIW) scored the initial goal of the second period, before Sam Wallace and Burchfield responded to make it 12-1. Carthage would take a 18-3 advantage into halftime, as Andrew Johnson found Jack Carter for a score with just over a minute left.

Following an extended halftime due to weather, the two traded goals to open the second half, before the Firebirds scored four straight before the third quarter's end. After Carthage took a 26-5 lead, the game was called with about two minutes remaining due to weather in the area.

The season continues for the Firebirds in the CCIW Tournament, as they host North Central in the semifinals on Friday, May 6 at 7 p.m.
