KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage women's tennis team fell 5-4 in a close match against the #13 ranked University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse Eagles this Sunday afternoon. 

After a loss on court two to begin doubles, Giana Apostoli and Sam Ramsey picked up a huge 8-2 win on court one over the #15 doubles ranked Hierl and Steinert from UW-Lacrosse. With momentum from the court two win, Luana Da Silva and Rachel Anderson took court three 8-5 over the visiting team to give Carthage a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.

Court three fell to the Eagles to open singles action before Giovanna Mendes gathered a heated 2-6, 6-4, (10-8) tiebreaker win on court four. Apostoli picked up another huge win on court one, defeating the #8 singles player Stein 6-4, 6-1 to bring the match to 4-2.

Despite two giant wins on the day over highly ranked opponents, the Firebirds would fall on the final three courts of the match to give UW-Lacrosse the overall advantage at 5-4.

Carthage is back in action next Sunday, April 10th, as they host Edgewood College at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
