Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Firebirds Continue to Roll With 11-5 Win at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. — The Carthage men's lacrosse team took a firm position in second place in the CCIW standings with a strong win tonight, defeating Elmhurst 11-5 at Langhorst Field on Wednesday night.

The home team found the back of the net first to begin the game, before Andrew Johnson tied it at one with minutes left in the first quarter. While the Bluejays (10-5, 2-3 CCIW) took the lead once more on a quick goal to begin the second period, Andrew Frey and Ben Krok eventually reclaimed the lead later in the frame for the Firebirds (11-4, 4-1 CCIW) to make it 4-3. However, Elmhurst would tie the match once more before the halftime break to make it four-all.

Adjustments at halftime led to a pair of goals for the Firebirds, as George Burchfield and Joey Workman gave them a lead they would hold for the rest of the match. While the home team scored to get within one, Johnson and Frey found the back of the net each once more to give Carthage a comfortable lead headed into the final 15 minutes of action. The defense of Carthage continued to hold, as the Firebirds were able to score four unanswered goals to get to 11 for the match, eventually winning by six.

Carthage wraps up their regular season this Saturday, April 30 at 4 p.m. when they take on Carroll in Waukesha, Wis.
