Superb Offense Shines in 18-6 Win over Eagles

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's lacrosse team collected their ninth win of the season defeating Wisconsin-La Crosse 18-6 at home on Saturday.

Carthage (9-1) came out of the gates with two quick goals from Margaux Giacotto and Maddie Berni. After Wisconsin-La Crosse (3-3) tied it at two, the Firebirds retaliated with five straight goals moving the score to 7-2. The Eagles put in another before the end of the first cutting the deficit to 7-3.

In the second, goals from Rachel Harris and Hanna Holloway made it 10-3 heading to the halftime break. Three more goals for Carthage extended the lead to 13-3 until the visitors responded with two goals of their own.

Four unanswered goals in the fourth extended the Carthage lead to 12 as a final goal from Emma McDonald sealed the victory for Carthage.

The Firebirds stay at home starting conference play against North Central (Ill.) on Wednesday, April 6 at 6 p.m.

Head Coach John Sung

"I was pretty pleased with how our defense came out and played today, they came up with some key ground balls. Izzy Rahmel and Sydney Kuyava did a really nice job today and came up with some big plays. It took us a little bit to get going, obviously, the weather slowed us down a little bit but it was good to get used to some bad weather. It was nice to come out on top. Hanna Holloway and Margaux Giacotto had good games so I'm excited for them. We keep improving every day and hopefully, we get a good start to conference play against North Central on Wednesday."
