KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage college women's tennis team fell 5-4 to the visiting Edgewood College Eagles (10-5) this Sunday afternoon.

The Firebirds (7-10) opened with two doubles losses on courts one and two. Sierra Sonnemaker and Maddie Kearney battled it out on court three, but ultimately lost 8-7 (7) on court three to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage heading into singles.

Rachel Anderson opened on singles court two with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win to bounce back for the Firebirds. Court one would fall to the visiting team, before Kearney claimed court six 6-1, 6-3 to bring the match to 4-2. The match would ultimately be determined on the next court as the Eagles took a 5-2 advantage over the Firebirds.

On court four, Sonnemaker closed out a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over her opponent, followed by a 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 heated win by Sasha Manojlovic on the final court of the day. The match would conclude 5-4 in favor of the visiting Edgewood Eagles.

The Firebirds have a two week break before their next match, which will be played against Concordia University (WI) on Sunday, April 24th at Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
