Carthage Men’s Volleyball Remains Undefeated at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's volleyball team picked up another straight-set victory beating MSOE on Tuesday night at Tarble Arena.

Carthage (16-3), ranked No. 3 in this week's National Volleyball Association and American Volleyball Coaches Association Coaches Poll (AVCA), started with an 8-5 lead in the first with a block from Peyton Wieter. Later, a pair of aces from Matt Slivinski put the Firebirds up 16-9. MSOE (14-8) cut the deficit to four with a kill but a Carthage block and a kill from Slivinski put the home team ahead by six. The Firebirds won the set with a kill from Carter Schmidt 25-18.

The Raiders jumped out to an 8-4 margin in the second off an ace. Carthage battled back, getting within one as David Markes hit a kill forcing an MSOE timeout 12-11. Back-to-back Raiders attack errors gave Carthage control of the set 14-13. The Firebirds used an 11-4 run taking the second 25-17.

After the third was tied at 15, four straight points for MSOE gave them a four-point advantage. Carthage rallied tying it at 21 with back-to-back aces from Slivinski. With the score locked at 22, the Firebirds closed out the game with a kill from Schmidt and a Raiders error.

The Firebirds return to conference play facing Millikin on Wednesday, March 30 for Senior Day starting at 7 p.m.
