PLANO, Tx. — The #24 Carthage women's golf team took first place in their spring opener this Sunday afternoon, shooting 298 in their second round of the Texas Cup to card a total of 603. The field consisted of five top 25 teams in Trinity (#13), Mary Hardin-Baylor (#16), UT-Dallas (#18), Illinois Wesleyan (#20), and Carthage (#24).
Conference medalist Adrienne Rohwedder took first individually, shooting 76 (+4) and 73 (+1) to help push the Firebirds to their first place position among 16 teams. This was Rohwedder's third individual title this season.
Seniors Kate Munro and Madi McCoy also placed top-five individually, with second and fourth place ties, respectively. Munro outperformed all golfers in round one, carding a 72 (E) and today shooting 78 to tie for second. McCoy shot a 73 (+1) this afternoon to tie for fourth.
Symantha Rohwedder chipped in with an eighth-place tie as she shot 79 (+7), and 74 (+2) to total 153 (+9). Alina Brindza carded 82 both days to tie for 28th and round out Carthage's scorecard.
Sami Plankey shot 164 (+20), Maggie Bahr 172 (+28), and Lorelei Oomens 173 (+29) as they competed individually for the Firebirds.
With a big win under their belt to open the spring season, the Firebirds will now prepare to compete in Washington University's Spring Invitational in St. Louis, Mo. on April 3rd and 4th.
