ORLANDO, Fla. — In a highly competitive dual match against the Transylvania Pioneers this Friday afternoon, the Carthage college women's tennis team battled out a 5-4 win to improve their season win percentage to .500. The win today also evened out the team's record in Orlando at 2-2.

After a loss on court two in doubles, Luana Da Silva and Rachel Anderson grabbed an 8-5 win on court three to bring the match to 1-1. The remaining court would go to Giana Apostoli and Sam Ramsey as they fought to secure an 8-7(5) win over their Pioneer opponents.

Court four in singles went to Transylvania, before freshman Sasha Manojlovic won her sets 6-2, 6-3 on court five. Two consecutive losses on courts two and three would bring the match to 4-3 in favor of the Pioneers heading into the last two courts of the match.

Court one would go to Apostoli, who toughed out a 2-6, 7-6(5), 13-11 tiebreaker to bring the score to an even 4-4 with one court remaining.

Freshman Maddie Kearney closed out court six with two heated sets 7-6(4), 7-6(5) to give the Firebirds the advantage with a very close and much needed win to end their trip.

Head coach Brady Lindsley:

"The teams battled some tough conditions today. Not only playing a tough team in Transylvania but the temperatures were in the low 90's. The kids played great! It was a good way to end a very successful trip for both teams."
