Firebirds Men’s Wrestling Wraps Up Day One of Upper Midwest Regional

EAU, CLAIRE, Wis. — The Carthage College men's wrestling team wrapped up day one of the Upper Midwest Regional on Friday at tournament host Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

At 165 pounds, Collin Ruiz won by decision 7-4 in the preliminary round. Freshman Kobe Gilbert collected a team-high 10.5 points as he won his preliminary round match up by fall. Gilbert then won two consolation matchups both by fall to take eighth place.

Classmate Mason Kochersperger took eighth at 285 pounds scoring 7 team points. Kochersperger won by major decision 8-0 then won his second consolation match by medical forfeit.

Gilbert and Kochersperger advance to wrestle on day two of the Upper Midwest Regional which starts on Saturday, February 26 at 9 a.m.
