Firebirds Split Regular Season Series with Carroll

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team fell to Carroll (Wis.) 80-66 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) contest Wednesday night at Tarble Arena.

Carthage (9-15, 2-13 CCIW) broke out to an 11-1 margin to start the game sparked by a jumper from Crishawn Cook. Carroll (Wis.) (7-13, 3-12 CCIW) responded, getting within two with a jumper making it an 18-16 score. Later, a layup from Fillip Bulatovic put Carthage up three with seven minutes remaining in the half. The Pioneers tied it at 31 and took a two-point lead with a pair of free throws at the 3:48 mark. Carroll (Wis.) clung to a one-point advantage heading into halftime 37-36.

In the second half, Carthage regained the lead with a layup from Garrett Horner. The visitors retaliated with a 17-5 run flipping the score to 57-47. A long-range bucket from Colton Sigel cut the deficit to seven, but Carroll (Wis.) grew the margin back to 14 with a fast break jumper. The Pioneers went on to win the game 80-66.

Carthage stays at home facing No. 15 Elmhurst on Saturday, February 19, at 4 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"Disappointed with today's result. They competed harder than we did in the 2nd half and really took us out of our rhythm on both ends of the floor. Senior day for Crishawn Cook, Kyle Czerak, Tyler Guest, and Noah Howard on Saturday. Appreciate all they've done for the program over the past four years and want to send them out with a win!"
