Men’s Basketball Takes on Elmhurst in Regular Season Finale

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team fell to No. 15 Elmhurst 79-66 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action Saturday evening at Tarble Arena.

After Elmhurst (19-6, 11-5 CCIW) began the game with a 9-2 margin, Carthage (9-16, 2-14 CCIW) got within six with a three-pointer from Crishawn Cook. The Bluejays pushed the lead to 12 with a layup, however, the Firebirds retaliated with a 21-5 run capped off with a layup from Nemi Ostojic. A last-second bucket from Ostojic put the home team in front 38-31 heading into the intermission break.

Fillip Bulatovic sank a jumper putting the Firebirds ahead 40-31 to start the second half but the visitors responded taking a one-point advantage with a three-pointer at the 17:16 mark. Elmhurst slowly grew their lead to 13 before a layup from Anthony Bernero made it 66-55. Though a three-point bucket from Kyle Czerak cut it to 13, the Bluejays took the victory 79-66.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"Always a bittersweet day for the seniors. I really appreciate everything that Crishawn Cook, Kyle Czerak, Tyler Guest, and Noah Howard have done for the program over the last four years. They are all great teammates and we wish them the best of luck going forward. We battled hard today and just couldn't get the stops needed in the 2nd half. We were plus three on the boards in the first half and we finished the game minus 12. Unfortunately, that's been the story too often this year."
