Augustana Tops Carthage in CCIW Contest

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team fell to Augustana (Ill.) 87-66 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup Saturday afternoon at Tarble Arena.

Carthage (9-14, 2-12 CCIW) started the game with a 7-2 lead with a three-pointer from Garrett Horner. Later, a long-range bucket from Colton Sigel made it 12-9, but Augustana (Ill.) (11-13, 6-9 CCIW) battled back tying it at 20 with a layup. After a layup from Fillip Bulatovic drew the game even at 27, the visitors closed out the half with a 16-9 run heading into halftime up 43-36.

In the second half, the Firebirds made it a four-point game with another three-pointer from Horner, however, another 19-7 run for the Vikings put them ahead 62-46. Following a layup from Crishawn Cook at the 11:11 mark, a 15-3 run for Augustana (Ill.) extended the advantage to 77-55 as the visitors went on to win 87-66.

Carthage stays at home facing Carroll (Wis.) on Wednesday, February 16 at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"Disappointed in today's outcome. Augustana is a tough matchup with their size and ability to space the floor. We didn't do a good enough job controlling the ball handler and you aren't going to win many games when you get outrebounded by that much. Need to bounce back on Monday. Have two more opportunities to get better next week."
