WHEATON, Ill. — The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) wrestling championships were held at Wheaton (Ill.) on Thursday afternoon with the Carthage College men's wrestling squad collecting 21 points for eighth place.
At 174 pounds, freshman
Kobe Gilbert placed fourth picking up 10.5 team points. In the third round of the consolation bracket, Gilbert won by decision (9-6) before falling by major decision in the third-place match 16-2. Classmate
Collin Ruiz registered 4.5 team points winning by decision 3-2 in round one of the consolation bracket. Ruiz took sixth place after falling in the fifth-place match by decision 7-2.
Loren Semler also took sixth at 125 pounds falling by major decision 13-5 in the fifth-place match.
Jayson Toellner won the RESPECT Award for Carthage. At the conclusion of every sports season, each varsity program will recognize one student-athlete as their RESPECT Award honoree. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as an integral member of the team, their institution and community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture.
