The Basics

  • Final score: Carthage 81 - Umass Dartmouth 58
  • Location: Miami Gardens, Florida - Fernandez Family Center

How it Happened
  • AJ Johnson dropped a long-range bucket putting the Firebirds up eight early in the first half.
  • After Umass Dartmouth got it to four with a layup, Carthage's 10-2 run extended the lead to 23-11 off a layup from Fillip Bulatovic
  • Later in the half, Julian Campbell connected on a three-pointer giving the Firebirds an eight-point advantage.
  • A layup from Bulatovic with 23 seconds left saw Carthage head into halftime up 37-31.
  • Carthage began to pull away in the second, starting with an 18-6 run capped off with a layup and free throw from Colton Sigel
  • Five-straight points from Johnson moved the lead to 19 as Carthage cruised to the 81-58 victory.

  • Nesbitt and Colton Sigel had double-digit points, as Nesbitt recorded 10 and Sigel notched 12.
  • The last time the Firebirds were 9-1 was during the 2019-20 season, when Carthage had an identical record after their holiday break trip.

Coachs Remarks

"Exciting way to finish up our trip! I thought the second half was the best basketball we've played all year. Defensively, we were outstanding against UMass Dartmouth's dribble drive. They are super quick on the perimeter and put you in difficult positions. Our communication was much better tonight.

This was the ultimate TEAM win!! We spaced, attacked, and shared the basketball, which is what we always want to do. We trust each other more each game, and it shows!

Nice to have a few days off to enjoy Christmas and spend time with families! But excited to get back to work and prepare for one more non-conference game to end the year!"

Up Next
  • The Firebirds return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 31 facing Greenville at 1 p.m.
