Carthage Beaten By No. 20 North Central

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage College Firebirds women's soccer team lost 2-0 to the North Central College Cardinals- ranked as the 20th-best team in the nation in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III National Poll- on Saturday evening at Art Keller Field. Two early second-half goals by North Central allowed the Cardinals to pull away and drop the Firebirds to 0-6-5 (0-3-1 CCIW) on the season.

How it Happened
 
  • Carthage was outshot 13-5 by the Cardinals in the first half of play, but neither team could find the back of the net. Ainsley Stallworth recorded six saves in the first 45. 
  • North Central found its groove offensively early in the second half, netting two goals (Sarah Andrey and Lauren Fischer, respectively) in the first five minutes of the half. 
  • The Firebirds took twice as many shots in the latter half, but North Central's Jordan Boyd recorded four saves and held Carthage to a shutout. 

High Flyers
 
  • First-year midfielder Olivia Rivera took the first five shots of her collegiate career in the contest, with three of them being on goal. 
  • First-year forward Jess Beymer took two more shots on goal tonight, bringing her season total to six. 
  • Junior midfielder Katie Talens (two) and Junior defender Veronica Walker (three) each recorded multiple shots against the Cardinals.
