Carthage Sinks Augustana in Home Contest

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's volleyball team started the week of competition with another College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) victory defeating Augustana (Ill.) 3-2 Wednesday night. 

The Basics
 
  • Final score: Carthage 3, Augustana (Ill.) 2

How it Happened 
  • It was a back-and-forth affair to start the first until the Vikings jumped ahead 16-12. 
  • Carthage battled back, getting within two off a visitors attack error, then got within one off back-to-back kills from Liv Carel and Katie Boston.
  • Augustana (Ill.) took the first set 25-22. 
  • A kill from Ella Pettinger in the second gave Carthage a 17-15 advantage. 
  • After the Vikings got within one, the Firebirds used a 6-1 run to close out the set with a kill from Boston. 
  • The visitors jumped out to a 10-4 margin in the third. 
  • Carthage battled back, tying it at 20; however, Augustana (Ill.) won it with three unanswered points, 25-21. 
  • A kill from Molly Skoda tied it at 16 in the fourth. 
  • Following the Vikings taking a three-point lead, Carthage retaliated with nine straight points forcing a fifth set with a closing kill from Pettinger. 
  • Leena Ajibola added a block in the fifth, making it a 7-5 score in favor of the home team. 
  • After Augustana (Ill.) tied it at 10, a block from Carel and Pettiner made it match-point. 
  • Carel added another kill from the 15-11 win.
 

High Flyers
  • Jenna Damon registered double-digit digs for the third straight match finishing with 19 on the day. 
  • For the third game this season, Kiley McCarthy had 20 or more assists concluding with 24. 
  • Tatum Kebisek led the Firebirds in assists with 26 and aces with six.
  • Kaitie Rohe tallied a new season-best in kills with 17, while Molly Skoda and Liv Carel had 12 and 11, respectively. 
  • Dating back to 2009, Carthage has an 18-game winning streak over Augustana (Ill.).
