Firebirds Battle Carroll to a Draw in Waukesha

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carthage College Firebirds women's soccer team fought the number two team in the CCIW, the Carroll Pioneers, to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The draw is Carthage's fifth of the year and brings its overall record to 0-5-5. 


The Basics
 
  • Final Score: Carthage 1, Carroll 1.

  • Records: Carthage 0-5-5 (0-2-1 CCIW), Carroll 8-2-2 (2-0-1) CCIW). 

How it Happened
 
  • Carthage got on the board in the 41st minute thanks to an unassisted goal by Junior midfielder Katie Talens
  • Carthage held Carroll scoreless in the first 45 despite the Pioneers taking ten shots. 
  • Grace Tumilty's ninth goal of the season came at the perfect time for the Pioneers, who evened the score at 1-1 in the 84th minute. Tumilty is third in the conference in goals. 
  • Neither team was able to pull away in the final six minutes of play, resulting in the fifth draw of the season for Carthage. 

High Flyers
 
  • Junior midfielder Katie Talens scored her fourth career goal in the 41st minute. Talens now has nine points on the year. 
  • Junior defender Veronica Walker registered three shots on goal against the Pios - a career-high. 
  • First-year goalkeeper Ainsley Stallworth allowed only one goal on 25 Carroll shots (14 on goal, good for a 93% save percentage), giving her 13 saves on the day. The 13 saves is a season-high for Stallworth. Carroll scored five goals in its most recent game versus Elmhurst.
