FORT ATKINSON, Wis. - The Carthage College women's bowling team captured its first tournament win in program history over the weekend in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin after knocking down 8,195 pins to claim the Warhawk Classic title. In Sunday's position round, Carthage took down UW-Whitewater, ranked No. 3 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association DII/DIII Preseason Poll, 922-875 in a baker match.
Carthage was led by a trio of sophomores, as
Caitlin Powers (928),
Alexis Picicco (920), and
Ashley Turner (918) led the Firebirds and placed seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively.

- On day one of competition on Saturday, Carthage played five traditional matches, winning four of them.
- Carthage's opening match was against Dominican University (Ill.), whom they dispatched 886-760.
- The Firebirds fell in their next match to Augustana (Ill.), losing by 36 pins.
- North Central provided a great challenge in the third matchup of the day for Carthage, but the Firebirds eeked out a win by a grand total of five pins. The final score was 857-852.
- The fourth match of the day was a dominant one for Carthage, as the team took down Elmhurst 935-781.
- Carthage closed out day one by overcoming Augustana in the position round, winning 939-926.
- Carthage bowled exceptionally well on the final day of competition, winning three out of its four baker matches including the deciding match against No. 3 UW-Whitewater.
- Women's bowling opened the day against Carroll, winning 988-821. Carthage's 988 against the Pioneers was the team's best performance of the classic.
- The Firebirds dropped their second match of the day to the No. 3 ranked Warhawks, losing by only 19 pins.
- Carthage rebounded nicely against No. 11 Marian University, taking the match decisively by a score of 976-883.
- In the final day's position round, Carthage was matched up once again with the Warhawks and looked to turn the tables. The team overcame Whitewater to take both the win and the tournament title- the first in the history of Carthage women's bowling.

- Sophomore Caitlin Powers, fresh off of an excellent first-year campaign, led the Firebirds by knocking down 928 pins - good for a seventh-place finish.
- Sophomore Alexis Picicco was right behind Powers, wiping out 920 pins en route to an eighth-place finish.
- Ashley Turner, a sophomore and Kenosha native, placed ninth after hitting 918 pins.
- Women's bowling looks to build off of its excellent result at the Warhawk Classic when it heads to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the Titan Invitational. The Invitational will take place on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6. The start times for each day are to be announced.
