Women's Soccer Shutout in Home Loss to Augustana

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage Firebirds fell to Augustana 2-0 in a Saturday afternoon conference contest at Art Keller Field. The two teams were knotted at 0-0 after one half of play, but two Augustana goals in the final 45 minutes proved too much for Carthage to overcome. 


The Basics
 
  • Final Score: Augustana 2, Carthage 0.

How it Happened
 
  • Each team took four shots in the first half but neither side was able to find the back of the net, leading to a 0-0 score at the half. All four of Carthage's shots in the first half were taken by a different Firebird. 
  • Augustana took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute thanks to a Kim Vulic goal. 
  • The Vikings doubled their lead in the 80th minute, with Liesl Whitener scoring on a penalty kick. 
  • Carthage only took one shot in the second half of play as Augustana's defense tightened up, leading to the 2-0 defeat. 

High Flyers
 
  • Junior forward/midfielder Katie Talens was credited with another shot on goal in the game. Talens has now recorded eight shots on goal this season. 
  • Sophomore defender Gabby Koziel tallied her second shot on goal of the season in today's game.

  • Carthage takes the road and heads to Waukesha for another CCIW battle, this time with the Carroll University Pioneers. The game is on Wednesday, October 5 and will begin at 7 p.m.
