North Park Bests Carthage 55-48

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage women's basketball team dropped a close contest in Tarble Arena on Wednesday night, falling 55-48 to North Park.

The Firebirds (9-9, 4-6 CCIW) were first on the board, as Bridget Barrett scored one of her nine first-quarter points, before the Vikings (12-5, 5-4 CCIW) responded with a jumper. After back-to-back scores from Barrett put Carthage in front, the visitors reclaimed the lead moments later, 6-5. However, it was the Firebirds who took an 11-10 advantage into the second period.

Five lead changes and four ties highlighted a closely contested second quarter, as a three-point play the hard way from Lauren Herrmann made it 21-18 with two minutes before halftime. A three from North Park would draw it even at the break at 21. The two teams continued to go back and forth, but it was the Firebirds who led by one at the end of three quarters, as a jumper from Lauren Knight and pair of free throws by North Park made it a 36-35 game. However, the visitors would take the lead minutes into the final period, holding on to win by seven.

Carthage will look to get back into the win column on Saturday, January 29 as they host Millikin in Tarble Arena at 2 p.m.
