Firebirds Drop Home Game with Millikin 55-46

KENOSHA, Wis. — In a close game on Saturday in Tarble Arena, the Carthage women's basketball team came up short to Millikin 55-46.

The visiting team was first on the scoreboard, before layups from Bridget Barrett and Margueret Spear put the Firebirds (9-10, 4-7 CCIW) in front 4-2. Despite the two teams keeping pace with each other, Carthage would lead Millikin (15-4, 9-1 CCIW) by five after the first 10 minutes of action. Midway through the second quarter, the Big Blue took the lead 29-28, eventually holding a seven-point lead at the halftime buzzer.

A pair of free throws from Lauren Knight and a three from Spear made it a two-point game just over a minute into the second half, but Millikin would remain in front and hold a six point advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The Firebirds would go on to fall by nine to the conference's first-place team.

Up next for Carthage is a matchup with Wheaton on Wednesday, February 2 at 7 p.m. on the road.
