Game Recap: #22 Men's Basketball |

Firebirds Notch Road Win at North Park

CHICAGO — The Carthage College men's basketball team picked up a 77-64 road victory over North Park in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) competition Wednesday night at North Park Gymnasium.

Carthage (9-9, 2-7 CCIW) started with a small 10-8 lead in the first with a three-pointer from Crishawn Cook. The Firebirds broke the game open with a 17-7 run capped off with a layup from Nemi Ostojic with 5:05 left. North Park (8-8, 3-5 CCIW) cut the margin to 11 with a pair of free throws but the visitors outscored the Vikings 10-6 sparked by a three from Tyler Guest. Carthage held a 40-27 advantage heading into halftime.

The Vikings shrank the deficit to five to start the second with back-to-back three-pointers. After the Carthage lead fell to four, another 17-6 run for the Firebirds opened the game up to 63-48 with a long-range bucket from Colton Sigel. North Park made an eight-point game with a tip-in bucket with 5:15 remaining, but seven straight points from Fillip Bulatovic extended the advantage to 76-62 as Carthage won 77-64.

The Firebirds return home facing Millikin on Saturday, January 29 starting at 4 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"Great way to start the second half of conference play. Our defensive energy and attention to detail allowed us to get off to a good start. The focus the last few days was to do a better job sharing the basketball and have a better shot selection. We finished with 19 assists and shot 57% from the floor, so I'd say we did a pretty good job.

Freshman Kyle Kostes was fantastic today. He gave us a huge lift in the first half with three steals. We started off slow in the second half, but Kyle got two offensive rebound putbacks to stabilize us.

A big one at home on Saturday against Millikin. We need to continue to play with this effort and attention to detail."
