Firebirds Fall in Close Battle with Britons

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage women's soccer team fell in close competition to Albion 2-1 in the Battle on the Border Tournament at Art Keller Field.

After Albion (2-1) scored three minutes in, Morgan Verbeten snuck behind the Briton defense on a long through ball and tucked the ball past the keeper to bring the game even at one. After the intermission break, the visitors regained the lead off a save that hit the post before it found the head of a Britton player who sent it to the back of the net for a 2-1 lead. Verbeten almost collected her second goal of the game for Carthage (1-2) off a give-and-go pass from Amelia Price but the Albion goalkeeper got a hand to the shot. Erin Otto had two good looks at a goal but the Britons made another save and the other sailed high, Albion went on to win 2-1.

Carthage hits the road for the first road contest of the season taking on Fontbonne on Saturday, September 11 at 1 p.m.
