WHITEWATER, Wis. — The Carthage women's tennis team traveled to Whitewater, Wisconsin this morning to begin their season in the Warhawk Tennis Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater.

The Firebirds began the event with the singles draw bracket one, where Luana Da Silva would drop the first round match 6-1, 6-1 against Grinnell. Da Silva would continue on to the consolation match against UW- Oshkosh where she would pick up a 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 win. The next round would feature the consolation bracket final and would result in a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Illinois Wesleyan.

The singles draw bracket two would feature Sierra Sonnemaker versus UW-Whitewater, and would result in a 6-2, 6-1 loss in the first round match. Sonnemaker would also drop the consolation match 6-2, 6-0, before picking up a seventh-place match win 6-1, 6-0.
Maddie Kearney would compete in the third singles draw bracket and fall in the opening round match 6-0, 6-0. Kearney would then go on to win her consolation match 6-1, 6-3, and also her consolation final 6-0, 6-0.

The first bracket in the doubles draw began with Sam Ramsey and Sasha Manojilovic falling to Grinnell 8-1 in the first round. The duo would then face off against Illinois Wesleyan, and win their consolation match 8-2, before winning the final consolation match 8-7 (3) against Augustana.

Rachel Anderson and Giovanna Mendes would drop their first round match 8-1 against UW-Whitewater in bracket two of doubles play, before winning their consolation match 8-0 against UW-Oshkosh. The duo would eventually lose their consolation final match 8-4 against UW-Eau Claire. The third doubles bracket consisted of Kenna Beth and Stephanie Yerges facing off against UW-Eau Claire and dropping their first match 8-5 in round one. They would also drop their consolation match against UW-Lacrosse 8-6, but would finish strong against Augustana in their seventh-place match with a final of 8-1.

Carthage would place sixth by scoring 18 points among the eight teams that participated in the tournament. Ahead of the Firebirds by just two points in fifth place was Augustana, who picked up 20 points for the event. The host team, Whitewater, would end up in first place with 47 points for the day.
