Firebirds Break Two School Records in the First Round of the Battle on the Border

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage Women's Golf team finished in first place after round one of their Battle on the Border tournament, hosted at Bristol Oaks Golf Club in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Firebirds set a new school record for lowest one-round score by shooting a combined 298 for the day. Today's score beat the previous school record set in 2013 by one stroke. Their play today set them a comfortable 28 strokes ahead of Wisconsin-Whitewater in second place, who ended the round with a total of 326. Calvin University trailed behind Whitewater in third place with a score of 330.

Adrienne Rohwedder also set a new school record today for lowest individual score in a single round, as she carded a 68 (-4) for the evening. The previous Carthage record before today's tournament was 70. Rohwedder leads all golfers on the individual leaderboard by five strokes. In second place on the leaderboard is Madi McCoy, who shot a career-best 73 (+1) for the day. Kate Munro also chipped in for the Firebirds, as she finished with a score of 78 (+6) and a fourth-place finish. Freshman Lorelei Oomens Tied for seventh-place, with a score of 79 (+7), while Alina Brindza shot an 82 (+10) to land herself a 13th-place tie and round out Carthage's first scorecard.

Carthage's 'B' scorecard finished with a 4th-place tie and a total of 335. Sophomore Symantha Rohwedder led the way for her scorecard as she shot a 78 (+6) and finished with a 4th-place tie on the individual leaderboard. Maggie Bahr and Katie Wachowiak both tied for 24th-place on the leaderboard after they carded mutual scores of 84. Sami Plankey and Natalie Hoege closed off the Firebird's second scorecard as they both shot an 89. 

Haley Prudhomme, who competed as an individual, tied for 15th-place and shot an 83 for the day. Arianna Lewis and Annika Erickson also did not appear on scorecards but participated as individuals. Lewis shot a 96 in the first round, while Erickson shot a 114.

Carthage continues their Battle on the Border tournament tomorrow at 9 AM, where they hope to continue their excellent play and close out the tournament on top.
