Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Firebirds Hand Buccaneers First Loss of the Season

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 victory over Beloit in non-conference action Wednesday night at Art Keller Field. 

After Beloit (3-1-2) scored seven minutes into the match, Carthage (2-5) tied it at one off a free kick from Anna Butler as her cross into the box found the feet of Morgan Verbeten who put it in the net.  After the score was locked at one going into halftime break, the Firebirds went ahead as Verbeten sent a through ball to Yuvia Ontiveros who beat the keeper putting Carthage up 2-1 in the 65th minute. Verbeten sealed the victory eight minutes later, scoring her second of the game 3-1. 

The Firebirds begin conference play on Saturday, September 25 traveling to Millikin for an 11 a.m. game. 
 

Quick Facts

  • Morgan Verbeten picked up two goals, one assist, for five points and led the Firebirds with four shots on goal in the contest. 
  • Katie Cochran and Grace Robinson each tallied two shots on goal as the Carthage offense peppered the Buccaneers keeper with 13 shots on goal outshooting Beloit 13-4. 
  • Sara Lieffrig made three saves in the contest.
