Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Firebirds Pickup Fifth Win Off Eloyza’s Penalty Kick Goal

KENOSHA, Wis. — In thrilling fashion, Carthage men's soccer team defeated MSOE in overtime 1-0 on Saturday night at Art Keller Field.

MSOE (3-3-1) nearly struck first a few minutes into the first half but was called offsides. The Raiders almost scored again with a cross into the box but the ball did not find the visitor's feet as the score stayed locked at zero. Neither team found the back of the net as the horn sounded for halftime. After neither team could find a foothold throughout most of the second half, Christian Lekki kept the game tied at zeros as he made a save off a visitor's free kick. Carthage (5-1-1) almost broke the tie with less than three minutes left but was called offsides. It was not until the first overtime session that the Firebirds won the game off a penalty called in the box. Danny Eloyza bested the keeper in the one-on-one matchup, winning it for Carthage 1-0.

The Firebirds are on the road to play Lake Forest on Wednesday, September 22 at 4:30 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Domin

"Not really sure where to start? We were bound to have a trap game here at some point and today that's what we got. Frankly MSOE is tremendously coached, had a good plan in the first 10 minutes of the match, and we could have been chasing from the get-go. I think it's my fault, we spent some much of the day as a team cheering on our football, volleyball, golf, cross country, and tennis teams I forgot we needed to stay focused on our business."

"I wouldn't go as far to say we escaped looking at the stats, coupled with having an apparent in-regulation winning header, but it kinda felt that way. Credit to MSOE, they played well above their stat line and past performances, and they are going to win that league."

"I think it is a sign of a good team to play poorly and still result."
