Carthage Defends Home Field with 5-0 Victory

KENOSHA, Wis. — The offense shined for the Carthage men's soccer team on Wednesday night, as they defeated Lawrence University 5-0 at Art Keller Field.

The Firebirds (4-1-1) pressed early, taking four shots and four corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of action. In the 16th minute of play, Mickey Reilly sent a corner kick into the box, with Collin Moran connecting on the ball to give Carthage their first goal of the evening. Minutes later, Reilly took yet another corner kick, with Colin Iverson on the receiving end of this attempt, as the defender found the back of the net to quickly make it 2-0.

Carthage continued to press on offense, as Colin Iverson's shot was blocked by the Vikings (1-5) keeper, with Moran scoring on the rebound for his second goal of the match. After posting a pair of assists on corner kicks, Reilly found the back of the net with just a few minutes left before halftime to make it 4-0 in favor of the home team.

Midway through the second period, Quinn Roth would score his first collegiate goal to push the lead to 5-0, a score the Firebirds would hold until the final whistle.

Carthage remains at home this weekend, hosting the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, September 18 at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Domin

"Credit to Lawrence, they really made it difficult for us for stretches. But I think our speed and reach was too much in the end. We scored some goals on different set pieces, and Mickey's hit was a rocket that hasn't landed yet. It was also a great opportunity to rest some guys, play some other guys who are ready but haven't had as many opportunity minutes, all while having an effort which kept the level of the match high."
