Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Firebirds Grounded at WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — In their second game in the state of Missouri, the Carthage College women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest to No. 4 WashU 7-1 on Sunday at Francis Olympic Field. 

WashU (2-0-1) struck first ten minutes into the match and doubled their lead with an uncleared ball in the box. Carthage (1-4) got on the board as Grace Robinson led Amelia Price with a pass who then beat the keeper shrinking the deficit to 2-1. The Bears got the two-goal lead back with a cross into the box as WashU went into the halftime break 3-1. 

The Bears added two goals in the second half extending the lead to 6-1. WashU tallied another goal off a penalty kick. The Bears registered another goal and won the game 7-1.  

Carthage stays on the road facing Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday, September 18 at 2 p.m.

  • Amelia Price recorded her second goal of the season and now leads the Firebirds in goals. 
  • Sara Lieffrig tallied her career-best eight saves over 90 minutes of play.
