Baseball Drops Pair of Road Games at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. — After sweeping yesterday's doubleheader, the Carthage baseball team dropped two games at Millikin, 4-1 in the first and 6-2 in the second, at the Workman Family Baseball Field on Sunday.

In game one, Millikin (24-13, 17-12 CCIW) was first to bring in a run, later taking a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. While the Firebirds (15-21, 10-18 CCIW) were able to score in the ninth on an RBI double to the left-center field by Johnny Belskis, the comeback attempt fell short.

The second game was a pitcher's duel as neither team could plate a run through the first five innings. In the top of the sixth, Austin Prybylinski doubled to left-center before Bryce Prybyinski drove him in on a single to right field. Bryce Prybylinski would come around to score on a fielder's choice, giving Carthage a 2-0 lead. However, the home team would plate six runs between the seventh and eighth frames, going on to win by four.

The Firebirds will head to Illinois Wesleyan next, as they head to Bloomington on Wednesday, May 12 for a 6 p.m. game.
