Firebirds Fall in Midweek CCIW Game at Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Carthage took to the road to take on Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday night, dropping an 11-7 game at Horenberger Field.

The home team took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, before going out in front 7-0 through four frames. In the top of the fifth, Matt Pratscher reached on a single before coming around to score on a fielder's choice and throwing error to get the Firebirds (15-22, 9-12 CCIW) on the board. While the Titans (17-20, 12-17 CCIW) scored three more in the bottom of the fifth, P.T. Boeye hit a two-run double to left-center field in the sixth to make it a 10-3 game.

In the seventh, Carthage would score two more on a bases-loaded drawn walk by Johnny Belskis and sacrifice fly from Austin Prybylinski. In the final inning, the Firebirds would plate two more to get within four, but were unable to keep the rally going.

Carthage returns home next to host Wheaton on Friday, May 14 for a 6 p.m. game at Augie Schmidt Field.
