Carthage Claims Doubleheader With Millikin

KENOSHA, Wis. — In the first two matchups of their four-game weekend series with Millikin, the Carthage baseball team picked up an 8-5 win in game one, before a 4-2 victory in game two on Saturday afternoon at Augie Schmidt Field.

The visitors would score in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly, before Carthage (15-19, 10-16 CCIW) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth due to a pair of wild pitches. In the next inning, Millikin (22-13, 15-12 CCIW) reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs to make it 3-2, before an RBI single from Ben Levicki, sacrifice fly from Jake Cinelli, and RBI double from Pierson Gibis put the Firebirds back on top in the bottom of the fifth. While the Big Blue tied the game at five in the sixth frame, Carthage scored three two-out runs in the seventh inning to make it 8-5.

In the second game, it was the Firebirds who jumped into the run column first, as Bryce Prybylinski drove in his cousin Austin Prybylinski before Levicki doubled to drive in Bryce and make it 2-0. After Millikin scored one in the top of the second inning, Carthage pushed their lead back out to two on an RBI single from Gibis. In the seventh frame, the visitors tallied one more run on a double to right field, however, Levicki slapped a homer to center field to help secure the 4-2 win for the Firebirds.

Carthage and Millikin will finish their weekend series tomorrow on Sunday, May 9 with a doubleheader in Decatur, Ill. beginning at 2 p.m.
