Firebirds Split Pair of Offensive Showcases

KENOSHA, Wis. — In the first two games of a four-game weekend series with North Park, the Carthage baseball team fell in game one 13-2 before bouncing back with a 13-2 victory of their own on Saturday at Augie Schmidt Field.

The visitors took an early lead in the first game, and would go out in front 6-0 after five and a half innings of play. After a bases-loaded walk and sacrifice fly by Carthage (12-17, 7-14 CCIW) made it 6-2, North Park (15-16, 10-15 CCIW) would score seven unanswered to close out the game and claim game one.

Once again, the Vikings were first in the run column in game two as they hit a home run to take a quick 1-0 lead. However, after Cody Tostrud reached base, Bryce Prybylinski responded with a homer of his own to center field, giving the Firebirds a 2-1 lead. After plating two more in the bottom of the third inning, Carthage posted a six-run fourth frame, with an RBI double by Matt Pratscher getting things going before RBI singles from Jake Snider, Johnny Belskis, and Bryce Prybylinski. While North Park would plate a run in the top of the fifth to make it 10-2, an RBI single in the bottom of the frame, and two-run home run by Pierson Gibis, gave Carthage a 10-run lead to cut the game short at seven innings.

The Firebirds and Vikings will continue their weekend series tomorrow in Chicago, as Carthage travels to North Park for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
