Carthage Drops Midweek Contest With Lakeland 11-9

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College baseball team fell 11-9 to Lakeland University on Wednesday afternoon at Augie Schmidt Field.

While the visitors would sneak in a run on a groundout in the first inning, the Firebirds (9-7) quickly reclaimed the lead after Bryce Prybylinski continued his tear at the plate, hitting a three-run home run to left field. After Johnny Belskis reached on a fielder's choice in the third frame, Colton Klein singled through the right side before Prybylinski struck again with an RBI double. Ben Levicki would single up the middle into center field to bring both Klein and Prybyblinski in, and push the Carthage lead to 6-1.

Following a weather delay, Lakeland (4-6) scored three in the top of the fourth to trim the lead for the Firebirds to two, before the home team responded with a pair of RBI singles to make it 9-4. However, the Muskies would score a run in the fifth, followed by four in the sixth to tie it, before adding a single run in both the eighth and ninth inning to come back and win.

Carthage will get back to conference play this weekend, as they host Illinois Wesleyan for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 10 at 1 p.m.
