Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Carthage Falls in Battle at North Central 10-8

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — A late comeback attempt fell short for the Carthage men's lacrosse team, falling 10-8 to North Central on Monday night at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

While the Firebirds (9-3, 3-2 CCIW) were first on the scoreboard thanks to a goal from Michael Stell, North Central responded with a run of unanswered scores, taking a 6-1 lead into the second quarter. Carthage would net a pair of goals before halftime, cutting their deficit to three at the break.

The Cardinals scored a pair of goals to begin the third quarter, before the two teams traded points to set the score at 10-5 with 10 minutes remaining. Carthage would score three goals in an attempt to rally late, but eventually fell short by two goals.

The Firebirds host Dubuque on Friday, April 30 at 7 p.m. in their regular season finale.

Head Coach David Neff

"Tonight was a combination of a slow start, especially at the X, and bad game-planning on my part. We should have started in a zone and settled in from there. Our defense got back cut and we were in constant matchup situations that were not good for us, and that's a failure in preparation on my part. Offensively as well I just made adjustments too late. We should have been absorbing their slides and moving the ball to re-attack, but instead we tried to fight over the top. It also hurt that we had two goals taken off the board in the third, that at this point, both looked good on film so that didn't help, but at the end of the day we have to play better. We need to take care of business on Friday and wait and see how seeding plays out for the conference tournament."
