Firebirds Top Dubuque 14-3 in Season Finale

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's lacrosse team closed out their regular season schedule with a big 14-3 victory on Friday night, defeating Dubuque at Art Keller Field.

Minutes into the game, Dubuque (5-9, 1-5 CCIW) took the lead on a man-up opportunity, before the Firebirds (10-3, 4-2 CCIW) scored two goals to close out the first quarter and step out in front. Three unanswered goals in quick succession early in the second period stretched the home team's lead, with the Spartans scoring once more before Noah Lindner ended the first half with a score to make it 6-2 at the half.

After George Burchfield found Colin Poitras for a goal to begin the third quarter, Dubuque would respond, making it 7-3. However, Carthage would score five more in the third period and two more in the fourth, all unanswered, to pick up the 11-point win.

Up next for the Firebirds is the CCIW Tournament, which will begin next Wednesday, May 5.

Head Coach David Neff

"It's nice to finish our regular season with a win. I hate playing the score, but we needed to make sure we secured the best possible position we could if there ends up being a tie for seeding. I am really proud of this group. We are still looking for the great game where everything just clicks, but we have such a great group of young men and it's been a pleasure to be with them on this season's journey. We will wait and see the outcome of the Elmhurst and North Central game tomorrow, and go from there."
