Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Firebirds Take Down Millikin 5-1 for Strong Road Win

DECATUR, Ill. — The Carthage men's soccer team picked up their second victory of the spring in dominating fashion, defeating Millikin 5-1 at Frank M. Lindsay Field on Sunday.

"On the tail end of a long road trip where our guys were celebrating our men's volleyball championship yesterday, I think we lost focus in stretches and really in the opening minutes," said head coach Steve Domin. "I don't think you can ever be disappointed with a road conference win, but frankly not our best day from the opening minute to the final minute."

The Firebirds (2-0, 2-0 CCIW) were first to strike, as Collin Moran found the back of the net just five minutes in. While the Big Blue (3-3, 3-3 CCIW) would respond moments later to tie the match at one, a shot from about 20 yards out by Mason McCaw got by the keeper to give Carthage their 2-1 lead they would hold at the half.

"What we did get was some really solid efforts from workhorse players," said Domin. "Collin Moran, Nick Renfro and Omar Cordova flexed their muscles appropriately, keeping things whole for the balance of the game when in."

Between the team's two official matches this spring, freshman Mickey Reilly scored his fourth goal early in the second half, before Nick Renfro extended the Carthage advantage to three minutes later. The Firebirds would close out the match with one more goal, as Colin Iverson connected with a header on a corner kick by Danny Eloyza to make it 5-1.

"Adian Crowder, Mason McCaw, and Mickey Reilly were effective at the limited moments they were called on," said Domin. "Danny Eloyza and Colin Iverson, near back 100% from injury from a week or two ago, played their positions almost flawlessly while on the pitch."

Carthage is scheduled to host Lake Forest College next for a 7 p.m. game this Thursday, April 29 at Art Keller Field.
