Firebirds Drop Two Against No. 14 North Central

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage baseball team hosted the fourteenth-ranked team in the country North Central on Saturday at Augie Schmidt Field, falling in game one 5-0 before dropping game two 7-0.

In the first game of the day, Carthage (11-11, 6-9 CCIW) was able to keep North Central (18-5, 12-3 CCIW) out of the run column for the first five innings, before the visitors plated two in the top of the sixth. The Cardinals would add three more runs over the next two frames to claim game one. Game two starter Dante Guarascio held the visitors without a hit until the fourth inning, as the two teams took a pitcher's duel into extra innings. In the top of the 10th however, North Central scored seven runs to claim game two of the day.

The Firebirds will head to North Central for a single game tomorrow at 1 p.m.

  • Dante Guarascio threw a season-high seven innings today, shutting out the Cardinals with no runs allowed and holding them to just three hits while striking out six.
